ACG was tasked with the replacement of a double-span deck bridge while utilising existing abutments at Bococka bridge in Deep Creek, Kempsey. The bridge was located on a school bus route, necessitating completion before the start of the new school term. Due to the absence of alternate access over the creek, careful planning was essential to ensure uninterrupted material delivery and plant utilisation on both sides of the bridge during construction.
An issue was discovered with the design’s survey setout. However, our experienced project team and subcontracted surveyor were able to reposition the design onto the existing structure using a range of manual and less technological methods to allow the project to progress without delay. In particular, our team’s ability to not rely heavily on digital survey setout enabled the project to progress without delay despite there being a significant positioning error in the design documentation.
The deconstructed timber bridge was backloaded to a local salvage yard for recycling and repurposing and the bridge was opened on time before the school holidays finished.
