The installation of two RCBC culvert creek crossings within Collombatti State Forest was a technically significant project due to its remote and rugged terrain. The project aimed to facilitate heavy haulage access for Forestry operations in the area.
Navigating through Collombatti State Forest’s remote and complex landscape presented obstacles to transporting large plant machinery and precast items. To overcome this, the project team opted for smaller pieces of plant machinery, minimising distances for tracked vehicles and facilitating access.
Installation techniques, including the use of a Franna crane and flatbed truck, were employed to install the precast units despite the challenging terrain. Additionally, open communication and collaboration with suppliers, subcontractors, and the client enabled the project to progress smoothly despite the absence of a formal design.
Despite the challenges, both RCBC culvert creek crossings were successfully installed, fulfilling the project’s objective of enhancing accessibility for Forestry operations. Close communication with the client ensured that the finished product met their expectations and future needs. The project showcased the power of innovation and collaboration in overcoming terrain challenges and delivering results in demanding environments.
