In March 2021, the Nobbys Beach Carpark and its surrounding assets were severely damaged during floods. The affected areas included the adjacent walkway, stormwater culverts, carpark edge restraints, and stair landings. The restoration project involved several key works, such as removal of damaged path and stairs and construction of a new FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) boardwalk system, including stairs and landings, concrete sleeper retaining walls, installation of upright kerb and gutter to carpark perimeter, installation of stormwater drainage system to prevent edge scour, and rectifications to existing culvert.
Given the popularity of Nobbys Beach and the carpark’s limited access, our crew focused on careful planning and providing effective communication to the community. They ensured that the public was well-informed about the closure and provided clear directions for alternative routes. Additionally, the team skilfully coordinated deliveries in the constrained space.
Despite some unforeseen geotechnical design changes and supply issues beyond ACG’s control, we maintained progress and completed the project by the due practical completion date.
