Houston Mitchell Drive plays a crucial role in connecting the Lake Cathie community to the Pacific Highway, with a significant number of vehicles using it during peak traffic hours.
Originally, the project design involved milling and filling, which would have impacted the existing pavement. However, ACG, in collaboration with the Council, initiated a redesign. This redesign allowed for the overlay of asphalt on the existing pavement, addressing crossfall restrictions and improving surface drainage. It also showcased our resource efficiency and subsequent waste reduction by reusing the existing pavement as a base.
One standout accomplishment of the project was the innovative asphalt sequencing implemented to handle the high volume of traffic during peak periods. It was essential to ensure that the asphalt crew adhered to the planned staging. Thanks to this creative redesign and effective planning, ACG successfully delivered the project on time and within budget.
