ACG was selected to upgrade a series of bridges for the Kempsey Shire Council. To ensure efficient deck unit installation within a single day, several preparatory measures were taken. Deck units were preloaded with pre-installed curtain walls the day prior and transported closer to the worksite, allowing them to be easily unloaded from trailers overnight. Sequencing the delivery of deck units was critical to ensure correct installation order and to prevent trucks from being blocked into the constrained site.
Early communication with local property owners was essential to construct a temporary bypass track that could accommodate heavy transport access. This track was designed to facilitate livestock trucks, and heavy transport, larger than those required for bridge construction.
The project team had to contend with challenges posed by the remote location, such as lack of phone reception, along with high temperatures. Planning ahead was crucial to mitigate these risks and ensure key dates, like deck unit installation, were met.
ACG completed the works in compliance with the DPI Fisheries permit for dredging and reclamation work, ulitising sediment fencing and floating booms to minimise the impact of works on the aquatic environment.
Following completion, the deconstructed timber bridge was sent to a local salvage yard for recycling and repurposing.
