Cessnock City Council awarded the LGP420 Panel Contract to Alliance Construction Group for the Landslip Remedial Package 2 project, which involved six landslip remediation sites on the Cessnock LGA Road networks following major floods in February and June 2022.
This project addressed an embankment slip along Wollombi Brook, and a previous slip extending stabilisation efforts. Section 1 was 20m stabilisation of embankment due to surface water flow erosion of the roadside shoulder with 2m mass-bloc retaining wall. Section 2 was embankment stabilisation along Murrays Run Road to enhance user safety and maintain traffic flow.
Approval was obtained to work within existing waterways, which involved placing 500-1000mm hard rock to establish foundations for new retaining wall.
The project faced several challenges, including adverse winter weather conditions, coordination of local road closures and resident access, strategic planning and scheduling of works across multiple sites, and sourcing materials for remote and confined access locations.
